Architect. Urban Designer. Planner. I am Vishnu Krishnan, Urban designer with a background in Architectural Design and strong professional experience working in the United States, the United Kingdom and India. As an academic, I have worked on complex urban problems: my core competencies include adaptive re-use, urban revitalization, disaster resilient planning, emergency management, sustainable neighborhoods, resilient architecture and waterfront development. As a creative design enthusiast, I exhibit technical and practical knowledge in design and construction with a solid foundation in Urban Design and Planning. I owe it to Professor. Georgeen Theodore (Program Director- MIP) for helping me realize my potential, providing me with academic guidance, design proficiency and pushing me to take the extra mile. Upon graduation from the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, I started working for the City of Newark as a Senior Planner-Urban Designer in the Department of Economic and Housing Development. Link-In Park Reimagined
Lincoln Park has played an important role in Newark's African American history, the residents look forward to reinstating in the neighborhood, recollecting on their memories as children, on the beauty of the place and how things changed after the 1960’s. The strength of the neighborhood is its historic character, the light industrial activity and the abundance of open and green spaces. The intact nineteenth century isolated high style residences around the existing park reflect the social and economic prominence of the area and need maintenance. The first move towards revitalization of the park is connecting the neighborhood to Penn station and the airport, with a Light rail line and a stop at the park; Symphony Hall station as it would be called.
The idea is to create a new fabric for the community to benefit from: the transit-oriented development, an artists’ village on Broad street and a tourism-oriented development on the Camp street.
