Midterm Assessment
The Midterm period is the perfect opportunity to take stock of where you are in your courses. By this point, you should have completed about half of the projects, assignments, and/or exams for your courses.
This is a good time to look back on the grades you’ve received so far, touch base with your instructors on how your grades stand in each course, and to coordinate your remaining assignments, etc., to maintain or improve your grades for the remainder of the semester.
Midterm Warnings and Alerts
Midterm warnings are usually issued to students who are at risk of receiving a grade lower than the average needed for good academic progress:
- Undergraduate students: grade lower than a “C”
- Graduate students: grade lower than a “B”
Receiving a Midterm Warning from your instructor does NOT necessarily mean that you are failing the class! It is only an assessment to help students better understand:
- What their average course grade is at that point in the semester;
- The shortcomings in their work that is impacting their grades; and
- Practical steps they can take to improve their academic performance and final grade for the semester.
If you received a Midterm Warning, please read that warning carefully and have a discussion directly with your course instructor (in person, online, or via email) to make sure you are fully informed of your options for improving your grades and successfully completing the class.
If your instructor recommends that you withdraw from the course, please contact your designated HCAD advisor right away to discuss any potential impact to your degree progress!
