M.Arch Application for Advanced Standing
With an undergraduate degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, or similar, you may qualify for advanced standing in our program. For us to determine your placement in the M.Arch program please use the Application for Advanced Standing to specify which courses you successfully completed in your undergraduate degree program that may match the content of our M.Arch courses (see M.Arch courses descriptions here). Studios are not part of this list as studio placement will be based on the portfolio and transcript that you already submitted when you applied.
M.Arch Application for Graduate Teaching Assistantships
To qualify, you must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits of graduate courses in the Hillier College per semester, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (continuing students) or a minimum of 3.5 for new TAs, live in the state of New Jersey, and be available to fulfill your TA duties in person on campus. Teaching Assistantships are awarded based on your application and on a first-come first-serve basis and evaluated only after depositing to NJIT. Returning M.Arch students will be nominated based on their academic performance and performance of previous TA assignments. Please complete the Application for Teaching Assistant (TA) Awards by July 1, 2026 to be considered for a TA award.
M. Arch. and M.S. Arch. Computer Requirements
You will need a powerful graphics capable computer to complete your studio design work as you progress through your degree. You will also need a laptop to take notes and do homework in other important classes allied with your design courses. The following outlines your computer device and service options options.
Option 1 (recommended) Purchase the HCAD workstation specified for undergraduate students for the Hillier College (https://ist.njit.edu/student-computers) and keep it in the Design Studio. Studio access is available 24 hours per day and students are assigned a personal desk with lockable storage. Service will be provided by NJIT IT and NJIT will also help you image your computer and install Autodesk and McNeel software.
Option 2 Bring any stationary desktop computer and monitor of your choice that materially meets the specifications of Option 1 and keep it in the Design Studio.
Option 3 Bring any portable laptop computer of your choice that materially meets the specifications of Option 1. This provides maximum flexibility to work anywhere.
For Option 2 and 3 you are responsible for all hardware maintenance and purchasing, installing, and maintaining all software.
