Conor McCann
My name is Conor McCann and I grew up in East Brunswick, NJ. I always knew I wanted to be an architect from a young age because I loved building things. I was always building stuff out of legos, lincoln logs, whatever I could get my hands on. NJIT has given me a great opportunity to explore that passion and I'm very grateful for all the opportunities I've gotten while I've been here. From Brick Build, to studying abroad, I’ve gained a lot more experience than I ever thought I would and for that I'm extremely grateful.
Roosevelt Island Health Clinic
This design of this health clinic was based around the idea of creating multiple perceptions of the project. When looking from above, the building seems to align with the square panels of the roof. However the interior spaces actually are rotated to align with the openings instead of the roof line. This decision was made so that all the rooms in the clinic had equal opportunities to receive light, while still maintaining privacy. In order to avoid the very jagged and sharp exterior that was created by rotating the rooms, the exterior was transformed into a smooth curve. This made the building appear more approachable and organic. However when you enter the clinic the walls are all straight, as opposed to the curved facade. The facade is made of a curved glass channel material in order to once again, allow light into the rooms, but maintain the necessary level of privacy. The glass channel does become transparent in strategic locations to allow for accessibility to air, and views of Manhattan.
