Registering for Classes

To help you prepare for registration, you will receive a “Welcome to HCAD” email from the HCAD Advising Team detailing your preliminary transfer credits, placement, and course schedule recommendations for your first semester at NJIT. 

Once you receive your “Welcome” email from HCAD Advising, please click on one of the following links to sign up for registration event where you will meet with the HCAD advisors to remove your advisor hold and register for classes:

  • HCAD Registration Sessions: These sessions are held entirely online. During this session, HCAD advisors will demonstrate the registration process and assist students with their course scheduling.
  • NJIT Transfer Student Registration Events: These university events bring together departments and resources to help transfer students finalize their financial aid, transfer credit, and so on. These events also include a separate registration session with the HCAD advisors to assist students with their course scheduling.

Transfer Credit for HCAD Courses (Art, Architecture, Digital Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design)

To receive transfer credit for your major-specific courses, all Art, Architecture, and Design courses completed outside of NJIT must be evaluated by the HCAD faculty. NOTE: Only courses passed with grades of C or higher are eligible for consideration (C- grades do not qualify).

Art+Design Transfer Credit Application

  • Submission Deadline*:
    • Fall admits: August 1st
    • Spring admits: December 20th
  • For prior Art and/or Design courses completed outside of NJIT
  • International students must include
    • A complete WES transcript; and 
    • Syllabi translated into English

Architecture Transfer Credit Application 

  • Submission Deadline*: 
    • Fall admits: August 1st
    • Spring admits: December 20th
  • For prior Architecture courses completed outside of NJIT
  • International students must include
    • A complete WES transcript; and 
    • Syllabi translated into English

* NOTE:

  1. Transfer credit requests submitted after the submission deadline are not guaranteed to be reviewed before the start of classes. Please submit your requests as early as possible. 
  2. Your placement in the program cannot be changed once registration has closed. 
  3. No additional transfer credit requests are accepted once you’ve completed your first semester at NJIT. 

Transfer Credit for General Education Courses (math, science, etc.)

Transfer credit for general education courses - such as English composition, math, history, and more - are processed by the Registrar’s Office. NOTE: Only courses passed with grades of C or higher are accepted (C- grades do not qualify).

Undergraduate Computing Requirements for Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) Students
All undergraduate HCAD students enrolling in a studio course are required to have a powerful, graphics-capable computer to complete your studio design work as you progress through your degree. 
To meet this need, the Hillier College details three computer options students may choose from on the HCAD Studio Computing Requirement page.
