The role of Interior Designers is to improve the quality of spaces which therefore, improves the quality of everyday life. I admire this profession because to design, is to be considerate. To design is to make everyday tasks a little bit easier and quicker so people are able to get the most out of their day. Living thirty minutes away from New York City has given me limitless opportunities and inspiration for design. There are always things to do, places to see and adventures to discover. Architecture is so broad and the idea of it is constantly changing, which gives me the impression of limitlessness in design. Interior Design, similar to most fields, is based on the idea of serving people, creating spaces that are accessible, efficient, functional and aesthetically pleasing and as an Interior Design Student, I practice making spaces that are a “Total Work of Art!”. NEWH Green Voice, Container Reuse Hotel
An abandoned truck rental building transformed into a Campus Community-based hotel. The building’s size and strong foundation allows it to be adaptive for the reuse of shipping containers. The fascinating aspect of containers lies in its materiality however, its demeanor had to change in order to ignite the interior and spark curiosity. The container is used as a WOW gesture. It is also used to divide, contain and highlight services. Each shipping container comes ready to assemble as it contains plumbing and equipment for services such as bathrooms, kitchenettes, and in the restaurant, holds the bar equipment. Each container divides over three rooms so that one third of each container holds the utility space of each guest room. It encompasses the bathroom, kitchenette and acts as a storage element for hanging clothes.
