This initiative draws on the expertise and commitment of over a dozen colleagues across the College and the university.

The Center engages in a comprehensive program of applied research, technical assistance and training focused on the built environment and the institutions, policies, technologies and trends that shape it.

Led by Professor Hyojin Kim, current research is focused on creating or redesigning real-time building performance feedback loops for architects and engineers, by evaluating existing building systems and technologies in terms of their energy efficiency, water use and IEQ performance.

Led by Professor Martina Decker, the Lab does research on applications for smart materials and nanotechnology in our designed products and the built environment.

Through interdisciplinary research led by Vera Parlac, the Building Dynamics Lab explores adaptive architectural systems by taking advantage of today’s pervasive and constantly advancing material, robotic, interactive and computation technologies.

Led by Professor Taro Narahara, the lab pursues human-centered computational design through innovative technologies including multimedia data analysis, AI, and IoT.
