Youliana Elkomos is a first-generation Egyptian American born in Cairo and moved to the United States at the age of ten. As a child, she was interested in all different aspects of design such as fashion, interior and graphic arts. She joined the Hillier College of Architecture and Design after high school to expand on her passion in the field of Architecture. In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures while meeting new people. Youliana hopes to expand on her education in the future by working towards her Masters of Infrastructure Planning and designing on a larger scale! Facebook, Instagram
Chihuly’s Glassworks
The primary drive of the proposal is to connect the green spaces surrounding the site on all three sides while celebrating Chihuly’s artwork through the architecture; making it about the many ways of displaying the artwork and means of experiencing the art both indoors and outdoors. These spaces allow for interior displays during the harsh rainy weather of Venice as well as opening the same spaces to outdoor gardens to allow for the artwork to be celebrated through nature. The way the buildings are set up with no direct physical connection from one ‘island’ of program to another mimics the existing Venice vernacular and allows for the site visitors to occupy the negative space between the buildings freely. The exterior facade is orthogonal much like the surrounding buildings however once in the space you are surrounded by organically shaped spaces that hug the program and the art display spaces.
