I’m a Haitian American student with immigrant parents. I was first introduced to architecture through my dad. He would bring me drawings of his home back in Haiti and would try to help me imagine these drawings in 3D scale. I’m super grateful for having the opportunity to study at NJIT and all the benefits the school has provided me. Though the journey was extremely hard with late nights and long weekends, I’ve learned so much and created life-long relationships with both professors and students. After receiving this degree I hope to pursue my licensure and to use my skills by creating unique spaces for those who don’t have a voice in the architecture world.
Balance at Four Freedoms
Sited on Roosevelt Island, an island with a lot of history and potential, this project is dedicated to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Park as the Four Freedoms Foundation site. This project consists of three buildings. The main attraction, the museum galleries are placed underground and act as the anchor of the project. The two buildings that tether on the very ends of the site bring balance to that anchor and are used to bring the entire project full circle. By removing the trees once placed by Louis Kahn, my project acts as a seamless transition between the two worlds of the Smallpox Hospital and the Four Freedoms Foundation. This adds to the prestige procession towards the monument at the end of the island.
