Nicholas Ramirez
Graduated a semester early (December 2019) with a Bachelor's of Architecture Degree with a minor in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. Competed and held a leadership position on the NJIT Men's NCAA Division I Cross Country/Track teams for four years. Participated in the Siena summer abroad program in Italy during the summer of 2019. I worked to gain professional experience through internships during college at both F. Fernandez, AIA, LLC and Julie Anne Cecere Architect, LLC. As of January 2020, I am currently working full time as an Architectural Designer at MVMK Architecture in Hoboken, New Jersey where I have been working on multifamily residential and mixed use projects. I am also an alternate member for the New Milford Planning Board in my hometown where I was appointed by the mayor for the 2020 calendar year. Chihuly Glassworks
The Dale Chihuly Foundation is returning glassmaking to the islands of Venice. The site, Sacca della Misericordia, which is currently a marina and the last remaining piece of the city yet to be completed will become part artist studios, glass factory, glass museum, campo and theater. My approach to the project was to integrate public space and the dynamic urban characteristics of Venice. Asymmetrical site design paired with the shape/layout of the buildings created a diagonal experience for pedestrians to walk through the site while experiencing the entire glassmaking process through its various stages. There are a series of covered walkways that connect the buildings and public spaces together; the design is based on the scale of street widths in the city and surrounding neighborhood specifically, to bring a sense of familiarity. The goal was to create a seamless connection from this new addition to the historic city.
