When I first moved to the United States junior year of high school I struggled to pass my SAT’s since I couldn’t understand half the words written on an exam paper. I have dreamed of becoming an architect since I was 10 years old, but at that time I did not think I would be able to get into any good school at all. Little did I know that five years later, I would be graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, a 3.7 GPA, a distinction of an NJIT Honors College Scholar, and starting this fall a title of a graduate student pursuing masters degree in Civil Engineering. Wellness Center at Columbus Park
Located in New York City, Columbus Park is the center of cultural and racial diversity. Bounded by Baxter, Mulberry and Worth streets the site is intended to host recreational/wellness facilities to serve the local community and will act as a binding and transitional element between metropolitan to residential population. The design proposal for Wellness Center is a combination of three main ideas. First, the building will act as a barrier between the park itself and busy Worth street. This will ensure safety within the site and some noise reduction, while keeping visible connection and access to the park from any point of the site. Second, the intervention within the site will emphasize and utilize the sharp geometry of the southern edge of the site. And lastly, this center will be a part of the environment it is located in by making a visual connection between the building itself and the park. The surface of the park extends beyond the park itself and starts merging with the building. Building, now, becomes a continuation of the park by adopting its materiality and function, it becomes something that can be explored from the inside, as well as from the outside.
