My name is Victoria Lynn Birritteri and I am receiving my Bachelors degree in Interior Design. These past four years at NJIT have been memorable. From making new friends (whom I now call family) to discovering who I want to be, not only as a designer but as an individual. The Hiller College of Architecture and Design has provided me with so many opportunities to better myself and learn more about the Interior Design Industry; one of them is becoming a member of the International Interior Design Association my sophomore year and continuing that through my senior year. My advice to the new senior class is to not be afraid to ask questions and to always remember to stay true to yourself. You’re not alone and there will always be someone at HCAD that you can lean on.
Newark Culinary Institute
The Newark Culinary Institute was my final thesis project for the year. From extensive research I wanted to create a place where not only the students but the Newark community could be educated as well. One of my focuses of study was about urban farming and how this new idea of farming can have essential benefits for our future. Looking more in depth I found that using a hydroponic system is a very successful way to grow plants and vegetables. Hydroponics allows an individual to grow plants vertically and not horizontally. The water usage is at a minimum and this type of farming does not require soil. There are three very distinct types of hydroponic systems; hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics. Having these three different systems allows everyone to become educated about this new idea of farming and allows for the community to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
