I pursued architecture at NJIT because I wanted to be a representative of the neighborhoods often neglected in the building and planning process. The B. Arch and MIP programs at NJIT have shown me how many different ways I can use design to live out this purpose of service to others. Most importantly, I am grateful that I have been surrounded with people that all share this sentiment. I've learned from professors, critics, and fellow classmates the importance of a strong design identity, teamwork, and community organizing. Four Freedoms Foundation
This studio focused on the development of a museum next to Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park, by Louis Kahn. With narrow site constraints and the legacy of Kahn’s park in mind, the museum was required to pay homage to Roosevelt's Four Freedoms Speech. How can a body of architecture speak for the Freedom of speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom of Want, and Freedom of Fear. My response was to create a space that would represent the intertwining of two narratives of the Four Freedoms; Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s. How could this space reflect the overlaps in these narratives, and how could this speak to the current political climate?
