I am blessed to be graduating after five hardworking years with my Bachelor of Architecture degree and minor in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. Thank you to all my professors, advisors, and friends who have given me the knowledge and confidence to take on the real world. I am also grateful for the Albert Dorman Honors College and the Center for Building Knowledge for the special opportunities they have provided me throughout my undergraduate career. My biggest thank you will always go to God for giving me the most supportive parents, who never fail to show me unconditional love. This was not an easy journey, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It is an honor to be a part of the most talented and smartest group of students -- Congratulations Class of 2020! Chihuly at Sacca della Misericordia
In a crowded city that desperately needs green oases, Chihuly creates a center of vibrant culture and natural landscaping. My integrated studio project is essentially an occupiable green roof that slopes evenly across the site, taking into consideration context by connecting the fundamenta and the existing pedestrian access point. There are three sliced masses that surround the main campo, with the hotshops pushed to the exterior boundary and the galleries on the interior, featuring semi-private courtyards. The cuts in the masses are corridors that allow pedestrians to pass between hotshops and galleries, while simultaneously viewing both programs. The whole building features a combination of operable and fixed glazing systems. The operable sliding glass systems are located in the interior courtyard facades, as well as in front of the hotshop viewing area. The skylight extrusions scattered across the roof serve as beacons of light as well as additional viewing opportunities to the programs below.
