Mateo Aristizabal
I was born in Medellin, Colombia and moved to Stamford, Connecticut when I was 2 years old. My family and I moved to Jersey in 2011 and I am proud to call it home. As a first-generation Latino college student graduating from NJIT with a Master’s degree in Infrastructure Planning I can honestly say that I haven’t done this alone. Above all things, I know that I wouldn’t be here if it were not for the grace of God and the support of my family and friends.Though this journey may be done, I look forward to what the future holds. Upon graduation I will be working with Ballinger, a firm based in Philadelphia!
Four Freedoms Gallery
While this speech took place at a time when our nation was facing a difficult decision, such fear is ever so present in our lives today, considering what we are currently facing in our society. My proposal addresses this exact issue. While the famous speech took place long ago, we still face those same challenges today. The Museum is made up of four galleries, an interior court with direct view onto the memorial, a cafe that meets any cultures desires, and a library that educates visitors on FDR’s life and our nation’s history through different mediums. Perhaps what makes this structure stand out the most is its abundant use of wood. While we recognize that concrete is the desired use of material considering Kahn's language, wood gives off a feeling of peace and tranquility, feelings that were intended to be felt as visitors passed though the museum.
