Kaitlyn received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 2018 from Catholic University in Washington, DC. During her time at NJIT she worked in the Laser Lab at the Hillier College Model Shop. After graduation, she will be working as an Architect at HNTB in New York City. Instagram
Four Freedoms Foundation
The Four Freedoms Foundation highlights the four freedoms outlined by President Roosevelt in 1941. The intent behind the design of the Foundation is to respond to both the geometric features and the axial alignments present in the Four Freedoms Memorial. This design emphasizes the east-west direction of the site which compliments the strong north-south axis of the island. Kahn’s design is a collection of wedges creating the promenade and this design reacts to that through the creation of new wedges. As users step down to enter the Foundation, they begin to circulate upwards and through the galleries in a manner similar to the circulation of the Memorial, culminating on the rooftop terrace with panoramic views. The main feature of the design are the four galleries which each represent one of the Four Freedoms that each offer a unique spatial experience to the visitors.
