Juan Fernandez
Hello, my name is Juan Fernandez, I was born in the Dominican Republic and I came here when I was a teenager. From the moment I arrived in New Jersey, I pushed myself to the limit to achieve my goals. The first time I applied to NJIT, I was rejected, but that did not stop me from going to community college and transferring to NJIT with an associate in architecture from UCC. However, I didn't do it alone, my family was there supporting me every step of my journey. That is why I want to acknowledge their dedication to guide me on the right path, this achievement is not only for me but for them as well.
Four Freedoms Foundation
Roosevelt Island was named after Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd president of the United States, and his declaration of the four freedoms. The four freedoms is the fundamental human right: freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of each person to worship God in their own way, freedom from misery and freedom from fear. The Four freedoms Foundation will commemorate and celebrate each freedom through displaying the history.
