I am graduating from NJIT with my Masters in Architecture. It has been a crazy 3 years, but I am so thankful for the amazing friends I have met throughout my experience. I have made lifelong friends that were my rock, from pulling all nighters to not so great critiques they have stood by my side through it all. The Cage: Four Freedoms Museum
As my Advanced Architecture Studio project, we were tasked with creating a museum for Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island, that emulated the four freedoms Franklin Roosevelt spoke about; Freedom of Want, Religion, Speech and Fear. For my design, I decided to create a large cage to house these freedoms and juxtaposed that with fabric curtains that were able to break free from this cage. The building had multiple levels of enclosure from outdoors to a temperature controlled gallery so each part of the building had a different feeling moving through it. One of the main aspects of the building was the large outdoor public ramp that was able to bring you from grade to the cafe and to a gallery with multiple stops and lookout points to enjoy the building and its site. This design was meant for visitors to question our freedoms and how we treat them. Are we not using them enough and putting them into a cage or maybe we are caging them from others to enjoy?
