Originally from Madison, New Jersey, Clarissa Van Ryzin came to Newark to study architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She works to develop designs that bring people together through the interaction of spaces. Clarissa looks forward to incorporating green initiatives into everyday architectural experiences in the future.
Paris: Along the Seine
The objective of this project was to design a cohesive structure that enhanced the promenade and completed the streetscape along the boulevard above while building a connection between the two. The greenwall along the river aims to maintain the existing greenscape along the Seine, while creating opportunity along the promenade and in the proposed shops. Along the boulevard, the shops are connected by the covered walkway, reaching from the Louvre to the Metro Station, reflecting typical streetscape volume. The greenwall provides growing space, shading, and cooling. By rebuilding the existing wall as a terracing landscape with public amphitheaters, the greenwall is used as a screen for the city, to mount screens, art, or any other displays. By overlaying the greenwall structural system and the volumetric system set by the needs of the amphitheater and shops, this project creates a variety of playful spaces to be explored year-round.
