After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from NJIT, I knew I wanted to further my education by working towards a Master of Science in Architecture degree with a focus on sustainability. I am also LEED Green Associate certified! I now feel proud to say I have two degrees that work hand in hand together that have provided me with extensive knowledge to help me with this next chapter of my life. Essence
Essence is a residential housing building in Newark. The facade of the building features large outdoor terraces with an abundance of vegetation to keep the building passively cool and offer privacy. The wood and greenery together act as a symbol of nature and the built environment coming together. The design was made with habitat restoration in mind. Incorporation of native plants and trees are seen throughout Essence. All materials are derived from sustainable and locally sourced natural resources. Each unit within, has walls that can fold open for a sense of indoor/outdoor living. The building also features a green roof to help fight the heat island effect, improve residents carbon footprint, collect rainwater, and serve as a habitat source for migratory birds. The roof also has a collection of greenhouses that would grow vegetables and native planting to give back to the community of Newark.
