Through the persistence and support of my peers and the faculty at NJIT, I have been able to achieve many goals and can proudly say I have overcome so much in life no matter how hard things became. My projects focus on adaptive reuse and programmatic innovation responding to the urban fabric. My desire to better understand building technology has led me to seek a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and to learn through working in construction management. Although academic and professional experience has allowed me to look at the design process through many lenses, my passion lies creating beautiful architecture. Negotiating Neighborhoods
After a semester long study on public housing in NYC, particularly in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, the project aimed to create a piece of architecture that had a visual and programmatic connection between the brownstones and public housing apartments in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The curved like structure embodies the flexibility a brick facade allows, while the arches at the ground floor allow for an inviting public space that resembles the facade of the brownstones up the block. The curved plan encourages an approach to housing that is not typically seen in residential neighborhoods, especially of those in middle to low income housing. The study acknowledged the need for a policy to accommodate the greater social issues architecture aims to solve.
