Interior Design Students Selected as East Regional IDEC Competition Winners

For the third consecutive year, a team from the School of Art + Design’s Interior Design program was selected as an East Regional winner in the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Student Design Competition. Third year students Nora Gharib (Secaucus, NJ) and Lucia Rodriguez (Newark, NJ) created “Common Core : Private Edges” as a response to the call to seek “new paradigms and the reinvention [of] college learning spaces,” as they used “interstitial spaces to define areas that encourage interaction.”

The entry, created during the last two weeks of the fall semester, was selected as one of three finalists from the region that includes Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, DC as well as the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Each of five regions selected three winners and the fifteen finalists will be judged at the annual IDEC Conference in Indianapolis later in February.

The work was produced in a studio taught by adjunct Linda Laucerica who was assisted in providing critiques by Coordinator of the Interior Design program David Brothers, Director of the School of Art + Design Glenn Goldman, and Associate Dean for Academics, John Cays.
