I’ve had a great time in the past five years learning a whole new language with some of the best friends I’ve ever had. Building models, yelling across rooms, and staying up way too late playing games. I’ve had an amazing time in AIAS, meeting amazing people every year. When I was elected chapter president, I was not expecting the final year we got. I honestly had a great time this last year though, with some of my favorite professors and friends. Even got the seventh floor studio all to myself! If you didn’t know, I’m from Maryland. I didn’t know anyone or anything about New Jersey when I came here, but studio made me feel right at home. Windlassed
Windlass is a conceptual project in the same vein as something like Archigram’s walking city. It is a machine for the future, where people face issues like water levels rising, heat waves and cold snaps. This project was meant to be seen as an ever changing project, with parts coming and going, and the complex itself expanding or shrinking over time. To view it more as a machine, I thought of drawing it more as an instruction manual than a blueprint. The pieces are all very basic and swapped easily to make for all kinds of spaces inside, and there are winches that can be built up and serve as the permanent elements of the project.
