Here's the SIGGRAPH Conference inside scoop, coming to you from Patricia Patalinjug, digital design student at NJIT and current NJIT SIGGRAPH president and 2022 Student Volunteer:
“I can't lie, getting 15 people from NJ to Vancouver was one of the most difficult things my E-Board has ever pulled off. Shoutout to them!! (Fun fact: Professor Glenn Goldman was on my plane!)
Every day for me started with a Tim Hortons Iced Capp, which was very needed since we all had a lot of work cut out for us each day. Our work ranged from checking badges to crowd control, all while answering endless questions, but we all had in the back of our minds that these people we're volunteering for could be our future employers. I was able to network with Disney, Ubisoft and PlayStation while I was working! If we had breaks between shifts, we were able to attend as regular guests and see what else the conference had to offer! In a nutshell, this was a huge networking opportunity, as we also made friends with other Student Volunteers from around the world!
We did have time to wander Vancouver at the end of each day, and we tried lots of different restaurants in the area too!! I spent one afternoon on a life-changing walk with Spencer (our current Tutoring Manager) in Stanley Park!
I would definitely go again and encourage other CG enthusiasts (especially Digital Design majors) to apply for the 2023 conference, which will be held in LA!”- Patricia Patalinjug.
